摘要

       The Shannon entropy (1948) is the dominant paradigm in information and coding theory. Khinchin (1957) claimed that the discrete Shannon entropy is the unique uncertainty measure for discrete distributions. However, Shannon himself pointed out that the continuous version is unsatisfactory, it lacks invariance under one-one transformation. In this talk, you may possibly realize that the Shannon entropy is one of the cores of statistics.
       Via the transformation of the convex ordering of distributions to the Lorenz ordering of new distributions, the information ordering of Shannon entropies is established. The measure of the difference between two Shannon entropies enjoys some merits, which can overcome some disadvantages of the Kullback-Leibler divergence (relative entropy). 
       Can we extend the Fisher 1920’s ANOVA method to the notion of analysis of diversity (ANODIV)? The decomposability of Shannon entropies will be mentioned. Having undergraduate mathematical statistics background is good enough for this talk.
